PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Purpose:  To minister to those in need of physical or emotional/spiritual healing by providing a tangible representation of our concern, love and prayers for the individual in need.  The shawl is intended to "wrap" the individual in prayer, comfort, healing and strength.

God's enveloping love is evident through the working hands of the Hilton's Memorial United Methodist Church Prayer Shawl Ministry.  This ministry was started as a result of the talents a member used to create a shawl for a family member battling cancer.  From there the ministry has grown to over 15 members that contribute their many talents and prayers to the shawls they have made.

These shawls are given to people facing physical or spiritual crises.  As they knit or crochet each shawl, they offer a special prayer to its recipient.  The shawls are symbolic and are very comforting to the patients that receive them.  Some of these patients are undergoing treatment in the Christine LaGuardia Phillips Cancer Center.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Thursday evening at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall of the church.  Anyone is welcome to come and fellowship with them from the most advanced "knitter" to the beginner that doesn't know where to start.
